This is the privacy policy for Northpace, an iPhone and Apple Watch app for high-intensity intervals, breathwork, and rucking.
We wrote this in plain English. If anything is unclear, write to the contact address above.
TL;DR
- Northpace collects no data. There is no account, no analytics, no ads, and no third-party SDKs.
- It has no servers of its own and makes no network requests of its own.
- Your heart rate, workouts, body metrics, GPS routes, and imported audio stay on your device and in your own Apple Health. The developer never receives any of it.
What we collect
Nothing. Northpace has no servers, no account, no login, and no analytics. The developer never receives any information about you or your use of the app, and the app makes no network connections of its own.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
Northpace uses Apple’s HealthKit on your device, with your permission, to power its workouts:
- Reads — heart rate during workouts; body mass, height, date of birth, biological sex, and VO₂ max (to estimate calories accurately — including the load-carriage and heart-rate model used for rucking — and to set your heart-rate zones); and heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep (to compute your daily Readiness score).
- Writes — each finished workout (type, duration, active energy, distance, and the heart-rate samples it recorded), and, for rucks, the GPS route attached to that workout.
This data is read from and written to your own Apple Health store on your device. It is governed by your iOS Health privacy settings, and it syncs to other devices only if you have iCloud sync for Health enabled (that is Apple’s encrypted iCloud, tied to your Apple ID). Northpace never transmits your Health data to the developer or to any third party — the app has no server to send it to. You can review or revoke Northpace’s Health permissions any time in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Northpace.
Location (Rucking)
During a ruck, and only then, Northpace uses your device’s GPS to measure distance, pace, and elevation and to draw your route colored by heart-rate zone. Location is used while the workout runs (including in the background, so the ruck keeps tracking with the screen off). Your route is stored in the app’s private on-device storage and attached to the workout in your Apple Health. Your location never leaves your device for the developer and is never sent to any server. The other two workout types (Norwegian 4x4 and Breath) do not use location. You can revoke location access any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Northpace.
Heart-rate sources
Northpace can take live heart rate from your Apple Watch, AirPods Pro 3 (or Powerbeats Pro 2), or a Bluetooth chest strap. In every case the reading is delivered on-device through Apple’s frameworks (HealthKit / Core Bluetooth) and Apple’s Watch Connectivity between your own iPhone and your own Apple Watch. It is used to show your live stats and is saved to your Apple Health workout. It is never sent to the developer.
What the app stores on your device
- Imported audio. Ambient sounds you add through Apple’s file picker are copied into the app’s private storage so they can play offline.
- Rucking GPS routes. Saved locally so the route map appears after a ruck and in History.
- Your settings. Units, heart-rate zones, durations, and similar preferences, kept on-device using the system’s standard preferences storage.
This data is created by you, for you, and stays on your device. None of it is sent to the developer or to any third party.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any contact information.
- We do not collect, store, or transmit your Health data or your location to the developer.
- We do not collect device identifiers, advertising identifiers, or analytics data.
- We do not run any third-party analytics SDK (no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Sentry, no Crashlytics).
- We do not run any advertising SDK.
- We make no network requests of our own.
What we share with third parties
Nothing. We collect no data, so there is nothing for us to share. There is no analytics provider, no advertising network, and no data broker. The only party that ever holds your data is Apple — on your own device and, if you enable it, your own iCloud — under Apple’s privacy policy.
How we protect your data
- By design: we run no server, so there is no database, no logs, and no employee access to your data.
- At rest: iOS and watchOS encrypt on-device app data (and HealthKit data) when your device is locked.
Your rights and how to exercise them
You are in full control at all times.
- Revoke access: turn off Northpace’s Health or Location permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
- Delete your data: workouts live in Apple Health — delete them in the Health app. Delete the Northpace app from each device to remove all of its on-device data (imported audio, routes, settings).
If you live in a jurisdiction with statutory data-subject rights (EU/UK GDPR, California CCPA/CPRA, etc.), you have the right to request a copy of any data we hold about you and to request its erasure. Because Northpace collects no data and we never receive any, our answer is: we hold no data about you.
Children
Northpace collects no data from anyone, including children.
Medical disclaimer
Northpace is a general fitness and wellness app. It is not a medical device, does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition, and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Heart-rate and calorie figures are estimates from consumer sensors and modeled formulas, not medical measurements. Consult a clinician before starting any new exercise or breathing program. Never do breathwork in or near water, while driving, or while standing.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in any meaningful way, we will update the “Last updated” date above and note the change in the Changelog below. We will never quietly start collecting data.

Changelog
- June 28, 2026, v2.3: Rucking calories now use a load-carriage + heart-rate model. Added Apple Health reads for VO₂ max and height, used (with body mass, biological sex, and age) to personalize the rucking calorie estimate. No data is collected or transmitted — these are read on-device only.
- June 9, 2026, v1.0: Initial publication.
